Reigning WSOPE Main Event champion, Annette 'Annette_15' Obrestad, once again butted heads with the 2007 runner-up, John 'Kunkuwap' Tabatabai, this time in the £5,000 Pot-limit Omaha tournament.
Obrestad and Tabatabai fought an epic heads-up battle at the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, with Obrestad eventually winning £1,000,000 and a coveted bracelet with a set of sevens to Tabatabai's two pair.
Earlier this month, at the Betfair Poker Challenge in Berlin, Obrestad and Tabatabai had a rematch with their hole cards being displayed on huge screen behind them, making for an exciting spectacle for the hundreds of spectators. After over half an hour of the intense match-up, Tabatabai emerged victorious by beating the teenage poker prodigy.
Having both secured sponsorship with Betfair, it was likely that Obrestad and Tabatabai would eventually clash at the tables in a major tournament once again. They did not have to wait long as part three of their personal, friendly battle took place early in Day 1 of the £5,000 PLO Event.
Tabatabai limped for 100 but Brandon Adams wanted to play for a larger pot and made it 450 to go. Everyone folded to Obrestad, who called on the button, the best position in Omaha, and Tabatabai tossed in the extra 350 chips to see a flop.
The flop came down Qc 6h Ts and each of the three players in the hand checked their option. Tabatabai quickly bet out 800 chips when the Tc fell on turn, causing Adams to fold but Obrestad liked her hand and made the call.
The river was the jack of hearts, completing a potential straight but with a pair also on show, a full house or quads were also hands that either player could hold. Tabatabai continued to show strength and led out for a bet of 2,100 chips. After a few brief moments, Obrestad made the call.
Tabatabai flipped over Qs Qh 8s 4d for the top full house, Obrestad quickly folded but not before showing the table she had Jd Th in her hand, meaning she also had a boat, just a smaller one and Tabatabai raked in a healthy sized pot, to draw first blood.
