Chris Hoy MBE, age 32 from Edinburgh
Event - Sprint, Team Sprint
Schedule
Team Sprint - 15/08
Sprint - starts 17/08
Chris' talent as a cyclist stems from riding a BMX as a child. He is now of course an expert in track cycling.
His first taste of success came as part of the sprint team in 1999 and in 2000 when he won silver in the World Track Championships for two consecutive years and then again at the Olympics in 2000. In 2002 he made his mark in the One Kilometre Time Trial claiming gold at the World Track Championships. He then went on to defend this title in 2003.
Athens 2004 saw him continue dominance in the kilometre event taking a gold medal. The run up to Beijing has been tremendously encouraging with Chris claiming at least two medals at the last three World Track Championships.
