Brit Watch: Sadly the only Brit likely to take centre stage on Sunday will be ... Boris Johnson

Dan Fitch has enjoyed previewing the British medal hopes throughout the Games, but there be slim pickings tomorrow...

Sunday sees the Olympic games come to a close and whether Great Britain finishes third, fourth or fifth in the medal table, it has been a wonderfully successful effort from Team GB.

Most importantly, we proved once and for all that we are better at sport than Australia. No subsequent thrashings in Ashes series or Rugby Union clashes, will shake my opinion on this matter.

The closing ceremony takes place on the Sabbath and anyone thinking of watching should be warned that it is scheduled to last for three hours and may feature images of Boris Johnson.

Actually the involvement of Boris is a reason to tune in. If there's anyone that could make a hash of been given the Olympic flag, it's our esteemed mayor. I'm still laughing at his reaction on Who Do Your Think You Are, when he found out that his grandfather was assassinated. "Cripes".

The closing ceremony also features David Beckham kicking footballs into the crowd, though if his performance on Wednesday is anything to go by, then row z better watch out.

A musical number will then be performed by Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page, who is clearly willing to do anything if it means that he doesn't have to go on tour with Robert Plant.

So on to business and on the last day of the games, there is very little left to conclude. Unfortunately, we British turn our collective noses up at silly sports such as basketball, handball, volleyball and water polo, so our only remaining hope of a medal is in the Men's Marathon.

And those British hopes rest on Dan Robinson, who can be backed at [130.0]. So when I say 'British hopes', you understand that I mean distant ones.

Robinson only took up running at the age of 24, in order to lose weight that he'd put on as a student. I'm keeping the weight that I put on at university as a memento of the experience, along with the dependence on alcohol and the disappointing subsequent career path.

And that is quite literally, that. Our hopes in the Light Heavyweight and Super Heavyweight boxing died in the semi-finals, so there is nothing left to report. We shouldn't be disappointed though. We've snatched far more medals than we could have ever dared to be possible and it all points to an even more successful games, in 2012.

Some would say that it's impossible for London to host a better Olympics, than the grandiose spectacle that the Chinese have served up, but I disagree. For one, it will all be on telly at a proper time and we have to stay up/get up at 3am to watch the swimming.

If people were sceptical about our hosting of the Olympics, then I would hope that the Beijing games have gone some way to assuage such doubts.

Sporting success somehow lifts the nation's mood and I look forward to watching the Brits again in 2012.
