Sachin Tendulkar has been inspirational to the Mumbai Indians this year.
Back Baxter to beat Jenkins @ [2.1]
Back Mumbai to beat Bangalore @ [1.8]
Lay Dundee to beat Raith @ [1.8]
Treble pays @ [8.3]
Baxter deserves respect, Mumbai are the outstanding value and Dundee have nothing left to play for according to our midweek multiple man....
Bet 1: Darts - Premier League
Ronnie Baxter continued to defy his doubters last week by recording a deserved 7-7 draw against Mervyn King. Now it is time to sit up and take notice of the Lancastrian and give him the due recognition for his performances in this year's Premier League of Darts.
With four games remaining in the league stages of the competition The Rocket looks on course to take one of the three remaining semi-final slots, a position that he can strengthen with victory over Terry Jenkins this week. Jenkins got his own cause back on track with two points that moved him off the bottom of the table last week, and whilst that win left him harbouring hopes of a semi-final spot the reality is that he has left himself too much to do.
Although Jenkins ended his six game Premier League losing streak last week, he made second round exits at the hands of journeymen Steve Evans and Terry Temple in the weekend's Pro Tour events; hardly the form of a player who is looking to make a surge amongst the game's elite players.
Selection: Back Baxter to beat Jenkins @ [2.1]
Bet 2: Cricket - IPL 3
Despite one or two off-field incidents surrounding the IPL's return to India, I doubt that there are many who would argue that on the field of play it has been a return to glory for the most glamorous of Twenty20 tournaments. Nail biting drama and tension have never been far away and the crowds have been typically Indian when it comes to cricket - respectful and enthusiastic.
Mumbai Indians cruised into the semi-finals as the form team in the league stages. They appear to have the perfect mixture of power scoring in the opening overs, consolidating in the middle when necessary, finishing off with their big hitters and backing it all up with a tight bowling unit. Slightly unfortunate for them is that they are, in my opinion, playing the second best team in the competition and the winner of this semi-final will be favourite to go on and win in the final.
It doesn't always work out that the best team in the group stages goes on to win the tournament, and there is often a sense of injustice when a team so dominant over the course of four weeks does not go on to lift the trophy. However, at odds of [1.8] Mumbai are outstanding value to make it to their first IPL final.
Selection: Back Mumbai to beat Bangalore @ [1.8]
Bet 3: Football - Scottish First Division
Dundee had their sights and hearts set on promotion to the SPL just a short couple of months ago, but a treacherous run of form saw them slip to second in the table and now the weekend's draw against Morton has all but sealed their fate. Another season in the second tier of Scottish football looms.
This Wednesday they face Raith Rovers who, despite making it to the recent Scottish Cup semi-final, still need a few more points to ensure they don't get dragged into an end of season relegation play-off. The wind dropped out of the Dundee sails long ago, but now they don't even have hope to propel them forward and at odds of [1.8] they are more than worth taking on.
Selection: Lay Dundee to beat Raith @ [1.8]
