Monte's Multiple: Liverpool to display the fighting spirit they showed against Manchester United

Monte's Multiple RSS / Jaymes Monte / 03 November 2009 / Leave a comment

As the pressure builds on Benitez beware of the wounded animal mentality his side showed against Manchester United last week.

Jaymes Monte looks to follow up last week's treble which paid out at [8.7] with a mouth watering [12.7] shot this week....

Back Liverpool to beat Lyon @ 3.3
Back Robertson to beat Fu @ 2.2
Back India to beat Australia @ 1.75 in the 5th ODI
Treble pays @ 12.7

Bet 1: Football - Champions League

As with most of Michel Platini's ideas, many scoffed at the idea of making the Champions League more accessible to the champions of lower ranked UEFA nations. It was hard to see how having so called lesser teams in the competition would benefit the tournament as a whole. But a glance at the group stage league tables shows that somehow it has had the desired effect.

Three games in and there are a number of Europe's power houses who still have it all to do. At varying degrees of intensity the pressure will be on Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Inter and Juventus this week.

Undoubtedly though, it is Liverpool who find themselves in the most precarious of situations. Defeat in Lyon on Wednesday night would see them all but eliminated from the competition and even a draw will make qualification from Group E a highly unlikely prospect.

Although Rafael Benitez claimed that Fernando Torres was taken off against Fulham due to him being unable to continue, it is hard to believe that the game against Lyon wasn't at the forefront of his mind when substituting the Spaniard. Alberto Aquilani is also likely to start having recovered from a virus and you can guarantee that the pain killing injection needles will be working overtime on the others in the Anfield treatment room.

This game is huge for Benitez and Liverpool as a football club and I think there is a slight over reaction in the prices for this game. We saw their 'wounded animal' reaction against Manchester United last week and I think there could be another case of that same mentality in Lyon.

Selection: Back Liverpool to beat Lyon @ [3.3]

Bet 2: Snooker - Premier League

The Premier League of snooker is beginning to develop a somewhat sour reputation on internet forums. This is mainly due to the fact that some of the players just don't appear to be applying themselves to games in the way they would in a ranking tournament.

Neil Robertson was a late arrival at the venue in Preston last week and the lack of preparation showed in his performance at the table where he missed numerous chances in amongst the balls. He lost 4-2 to John Higgins who himself wasn't up to the usual high standards we have come to expect from the Scot.

However, I am willing to give Robertson a chance to redeem himself against a woefully poor Marco Fu. Fu has been completely out of sorts throughout this season in both the Premier League and in ranking events. He has won just eight frames from his four Premier League matches and his only victory this season was a 5-4 victory over Nigel Bond in Shanghai.

Selection: Back Robertson to beat Fu @ [2.2]

Bet 3: Cricket - India v Australia, 5th ODI

The series is evenly poised at 2-2 with three games to go as the teams move on to the batsman's paradise of Hyderabad. And despite a win in the fourth ODI which levelled the series, its bad news from here on in for the Australians.

First up they have lost yet another key bowler in the shape of Peter Siddle, who has boarded a plane back to Australia following in the footsteps of both Brett lee and James Hopes who returned early last week. He has been one of their key pace bowlers throughout this series and with Mitchell Johnson becoming increasingly expensive - he went for 74 runs off his 9 overs in the 4th ODI - things are looking grim for the Australian attack.

Secondly and perhaps even more damming is the prospect of playing the Indians in Hyderabad on a pitch which produced some mammoth scores during the Twenty20 Champions League. India's strength has been their deep batting line-up and on a pitch like this against an extremely weakened Australian attack this could be an extremely one sided affair.

Selection: Back India to beat Australia @ [1.75] in the 5th ODI
