There's no point beating about the bush, last week's selections were a complete carve-up. Forest conspired to throw away a two goal lead and lose their F.A. Cup tie against Derby, Jelle Klaasen could only manage a draw against Terry Jenkins and the less said about the England cricket team, the better. All selections losing makes a change from the usual two out of three, but not the welcome change we were hoping for.
Bet One: Darts - Premier League
Wayne Mardle's mere presence in the Premier League of darts is a topic of debate. He has been in poor form for a long time now and has failed to make the later stages of a major tournament for over six months.
It is no secret that his inclusion in the league is purely down to his rapport with the crowd, but for me even that is starting to wear thin. To be honest there is only so much that can be tolerated of a fat man jumping about in a Hawaiian shirt with inflatable palm trees. And then when he puts in the sort of performance he did against Mervyn King last week, even an 8-1 score line was a little flattering, we can maybe start to think that this will be Hawaii 501's final year in the Premier League.
This week he is up against Terry Jenkins, who I mistakenly chose to oppose last week. He looked very assured in his performance, rattling off six 180's (the most of the night) in his draw with Jelle Klaasen. His checkout consistency was of a high level too with two checkouts of 100+.
Jenkins can compound Mardle's misery and with that hopefully push him closer to the Premier League exit door.
Selection: Back Terry Jenkins @ [1.9]
Bet Three: Cricket - India v Sri Lanka - T20
India completed an extremely impressive ODI victory over Sri Lanka this week despite losing the final match to deprive them of a whitewash.
Their dominance can be attributed to two things - their ability to handle the spin threat of Murali and Mendis and their sheer strength and depth in their batting line-up. Throughout out the five match series no fewer than seven different players recorded scores of fifty plus and Sehwag, Yuvraj and Gambhir all knocked up centuries.
The main talk going into the series was how would India cope with the most feared spin attack in world cricket, and their dominance over Murali and Mendis was the key to their success. Spinners can be pivotal to the outcome in Twenty20 matches, and if the Indians can dispatch them in this format the same way they did in the ODI's they should record a comfortable win.
Selection: Back India @ [1.6]
Bet three: Football - English League Two
Macclesfield make the trip to the south coast on Tuesday to take on Exeter at the real St James' Park. It's not a journey that either fans or players will relish amidst the current weather conditions sweeping the nation. On the other hand, the Silkmen's previous two games have been postponed so they will be keen to get back into action.
Despite being tenth in League Two, The Grecians are suffering a poor run of form of late having won just two of their previous nine fixtures. Macclesfield have won three, drawn three and lost three in the same period.
Whilst the Macclesfield players were back at home with their cups of cocoa in front of the fire last weekend due to their game against Notts County being postponed. The Exeter players were partaking in a six hundred mile round trip to take on a struggling Grimsby side. They came from behind to draw that game 2-2, but that very result highlights their struggle to find form of late.
Selection: Lay Exeter @ [2.0]
