Monte's Multiple: Hewitt 'Haas' to be Wimbledon value
/ Jaymes Monte / 30 June 2009 / Leave a comment
I was at Glastonbury at the weekend, and let me tell you, Michael Eavis knows how to put on a festival. He has a very charitable and free living reputation, doing a lot of work in the crusade to bring world peace. However, there's one thing I couldn't agree with; on the outer perimeter of the festival is a large fence, and these fences bare the statement 'Bill posters will be prosecuted'.
Now, for such a generous and giving man you'd think Eavis would at least give Bill a fair trial without all this propaganda. I've trawled the internet and I can't see any evidence against him - I think it's about time somebody stood up for him. Join the fight against Eavis and others who continue to overlook the evidence and prosecute this man without trial; Bill Posters is innocent!
Bet 1: Cricket - West Indies v India - 3rd ODI
India are looking to avenge their Super 8's Twenty20 World Cup exit at the earliest opportunity, and that process begins in the West Indies. They began the four match series well, with an impressive victory in the first ODI, Yuvraj Singh once again the pick of the batsmen as he hit an impressive 131 from 102 balls. Virender Sehwag's short term replacement, Dinesh Karthik, also made a solid 67 at the top of the order.
However, the second ODI saw the Indians reverting back to those poor performances of the Twenty20 World Cup. They were bowled out for 188, and then the West Indies chased down that target with 95 balls and eight wickets remaining. Then, again in keeping with the Twenty20 world cup theme, captain MS Dhoni took to blaming individuals in the Indian camp, citing the players at the top of the order as the reason they did not post a competitive total. This Indian side does not have the feel of one pulling in the same direction.
After dominating all forms of the game throughout 2007/08, India are, like England's post 2005 Ashes side, in danger of believing their own hype. It's all square going into the third ODI but this Indian side is fragile and pressure is increasing with every passing game, they are vulnerable at present and should be taken on here.
Selection 1: Back West Indies to beat India @ [2.0]
Bet 2: Tennis - Lleyton Hewitt v Andy Roddick
Are you a regular attendee of public house quizzes? If so, you're almost certain to have the following question thrown at you somewhere along the way.
Q. What was the first competitive match to be played under Wimbledon's Centre court roof?
A. Amelie Mauresmo v Dinara Safina
However, the fact that the games outside centre court managed to re-start play before the roof could be closed and the players could re-take to the centre court may not be mentioned. The roof is certainly a welcome addition to Wimbledon, but officials could be advised to show a little less haste before using it in future.
Although the women will forever be the answer to the quiz questions, the game everyone will remember is Andy Murray's five set victory over Stanislas Wawrinka. Murray's semi-final opponent, should he make it that far, will either be two time finalist Andy Roddick or 2002 Champion Lleyton Hewitt as they go head to head in the quarters.
Hewitt has surprised many on his route to the quarters, none more so than number five seed
Juan Martin del Potro who he beat in straight sets, whilst Roddick has been solid throughout, if not a little one dimensional.
Roddick can usually bully players with his immense serve on the grass courts and it has once
again got him to the quarter-finals. But Hewitt's gritty workman like attitude will not be as easy to break down and I fancy the Aussie to run this one close, meaning the [3.0] on offer has to be the value punt.
Selection 2: Back Hewitt to beat Roddick @ [3.0]
Bet 3: Tennis - Tommy Haas v Novak Djokovic
On the other side of the draw, Novak Djokovic meets the in-form Tommy Haas. Haas has continued the pre-tournament form which saw him win the Gerry Webber Open in Germany, beating Djokovic in the final. And who can forget that epic five set match against Roger Federer in the French Open where Haas had a third set, match point before losing to the eventual champion. This should be another close one, meaning again that the German 'Haas' to be the value at [3.0].
Selection 3: Back Haas to beat Djokovic @ [3.0]
