A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way....
It is 42 years since the inaugural United Soccer Association Championship, when a dozen South American and European clubs were invited to the States and asked to pose under North American names. Clubs like Glentoran and Stoke City took names like Detroit Cougars and Cleveland Stokers and did things like brawl until their matches were abandoned. Referees were accused of faking fouls in order to make time for advertising breaks. You couldn't make it up.
The championship final was between Washington Whips (you may know them better as Aberdeen) and Los Angeles Wolves (more usually found in the Black Country). It was a classic. Both sides held the lead twice until a last-minute penalty for the Whips took the score to 4-4 and the game into extra-time. The Wolves went ahead 5-4, then missed a penalty. The Whips equalised in the last-minute again, and the rules called for sudden-death overtime. In the 126th minute, the Whips scored an own-goal, and the game was finally lost.
Tonight's Seattle Sounders-Colorado Rapids US Open Cup qualifier probably won't be as entertaining. The Rapids' last five MLS games have finished with two goals or fewer, just like the Sounders' last eight.
Recommendation: Back Under 2.5 Goals at [1.80] in Seattle v Colorado
