Why you should spend Wednesday watching Betfair Live Video

Dan "The Betting Man" Fitch explains what Betfair Live Video is all about and talks us through the highlights of Wednesday's offering which features the likes of Brazil's clash with Sweden at the Emirates

If you're lucky enough to have the day off on Wednesday, you could go to an art gallery or check out a museum. But let's face it, if you're reading this column, you probably fit within the demographic that would regard an all day session at the pub as a more suitable way to spend your time.

As tempting as that might be, why not consider eschewing the twelve pints, the pork scratchings and the argument over the rules of pool? Because Betfair is offering a far more productive way of spending your time on Wednesday, which doesn't involve any vomiting.

On Wednesday, Betfair Live Video will be broadcasting ten international matches throughout the day, which should provide a plethora of punting opportunities. But before we get to the football, here's the low-down on Betfair Live Video, for those not in the know.

Betfair Live Video offers live streams of events to Betfair users. To access the coverage of any football match being shown on Betfair Live Video, all you require are funds in your Betfair account and a broadband internet connection.

You can watch multiple events at any one time via separate windows and all football games feature full commentary in English (which is more than could be said for ITV Sport, back when they employed Ron Atkinson).

As with all live streaming there is a slight delay, though it is negligible. Anyway, if you've ever watched a game being screened on terrestrial TV, whilst watching the same game being shown on satellite, then you'll know that 'live' doesn't always mean 'live'.

The best thing about the service is that it features games not being shown by any other broadcasters within the UK. So unless you've got the room for a satellite dish roughly the size of those used at Cape Canaveral and can pick up those dodgy channels from Dubai, then Betfair Live Video is your best bet.

There're too many matches on Wednesday to run through them all, but things start to get interesting in the afternoon, when Bulgaria meet Finland. Spurs fans will be interested to see if Dimitar Berbatov's suspicious new habit of actually running around, continues on the international stage. Well, there is a transfer window coming up and a Berbatov inspired Bulgaria are a good price at [1.74] to beat a Finnish side mostly drawn up from players at Fulham.

Egypt won the recent African Nations tournament, but I still think they're under priced at [3.85] to beat Argentina, with the draw at [3.25] and Argentina [2.14]. It's possibly the first time that the Argies have been odds against since the Falklands War was priced up and I'll be backing the South Americans here.

The hapless Austria host a Dutch side, that are great value at [1.84]. Austria have succumbed recently to England and Germany, so there's no reason not to fancy a Holland side that will be playing for their squad places at Euro 2008.

Joachim Loew will be hoping that his young starlets will be one generation of German gold that doesn't go hiding in Switzerland, when they travel to Berne. Germany are another side that are surprisingly odds against, at [2.14], which is worth a bet against a poor Switzerland team.

Finally, we have what will surely prove to be the most exciting event being hosted at The Emirates stadium this year, apart from this summer's Springsteen concert as Sweden play Brazil. The match should feature an appearance from Manchester United's Anderson and the [1.8] for a Brazil win is a very good price.

So spend your Wednesday in a productive manner, by trading on pointless international friendlies all day and hopefully making yourself a few quid. Even If you're unlucky enough to be at work all day, then a few important looking excel files can easily be clicked upon to hide the fact that you're spending your morning betting on the Uzbekistan game.

And here's the full list of international games being shown on Betfair Live Video, on Wednesday:
