Early goals prove decisive in home internationals
England's flying start against Estonia had punters piling in for a goal rush as the home team looked set to break the stuck groove of 3-0 wins at Wembley.
But try as they might, McClaren's men could not put another past Mart Poom in the away goal after establishing an early 3-0 lead after 32 minutes. At that point, Betfair customers were backing 'any unquoted' on the correct score market at 1.1. The actual correct score of 3-0 was matched at 12.5.
Of course the fast start meant backers of the home win at 1.1 could sit back and wait for the final whistle safe in the knowledge that they would get a return on their money.
A Scotland win traded at 2.68 after the home team also leapt out of the starting blocks a la England.
Strikes in the third and 10th minutes gave Alex McLeish's men a decisive advantage. Andriy Shevchenko notched one for Ukraine but James McFadden restored the two goal advantage in the 68th minute.
The correct score of 3-1 was matched at 32.
