Bundesliga Betting: Historically magical fixture between Bayern and Monchengladbach has an obvious winner
Razhan Miran briefs us on Leverkusen's suicidal second-half last week, Bayern Munich's continued revival and where to put your monry on in this weekend's fixtures.
A powerful surge up the table has left Bayern just a single point off the top, with a distinct chance of hitting the peak this game round. And with a relatively successful campaign in the Champions League thus far, which has seen them all but progress to the latter stages, the so called 'crisis' at the Allianz so evident just a few weeks ago, now seems a distant memory.
It's five wins on the trot for Klinsmann, which is likely to become six this weekend, with an away fixture at struggling Monchengladbach. Once a battle of the titans, this fixture has lost most of its prestige over the years, largely due to Gladbach's unfortunate fall from grace. It will however, be a passionate affair, and new coach Hans Meyer will do all he can to conjure some of the magic that this fixture has seen in the past, with his pre-match tagline likely to be "Remember who you are".
Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philip Lahm are both back for Bayern, and should slot straight back into the side. No new injury concerns for Gladbach, who will be in good spirits after a two-nil victory away to Bielefeld last weekend, spearheaded by wonderkid Marko Marin, who continues to carry the club on his young shoulders.
Gladbach have struggled to score goals this season, and with Bayern's defence improving from game to game, they will have a tough time scoring. Thus I believe the Under 2.5 Goals to be great value at [2.42], despite Bayern's goal scoring prowess. Although Bayern should win, at [1.55] they are too short, and so I believe there is more value in backing the Correct Score, with the 0-1 and 0-2 at [10.0] and [9.6] respectively.
Although Leverkusen top the table on goal difference at the moment, they will be kicking themselves after letting a three-nil lead slip away last weekend against relegation candidates Karlsruhe. Coach Bruno Labaddia was livid after the miraculous turnaround, which would have put them two points clear at the top, and more importantly, three clear of Bayern.
They have been in fabulous form, yet anything but three points on Saturday is likely to see them drop a place or maybe two. And what a game we have in prospect, with Schalke the visitors to the Bay-Arena.
Schalke were unlucky last weekend, after outplaying Bayern for long spells in a match they eventually lost. Fred Rutten has lost the services of Levan Kenia, but welcomes back Christian Pander who may start. Leverkusen are also without on-form Pirmin Schwegler who sustained an injury during training this week.
Leverkusen were involved in four successive Under 2.5 Goals games before last weekend's six goal thriller, and Schalke will approach this match cautiously, well aware of Leverkusen's attacking swagger. This is an unusual weekend of tipping, as I am unlikely to ever do this again in such a goal infested league, but I will go for another Under 2.5 Goals at [2.16]. It's difficult to bet against Leverkusen, but as this one could be a draw, I have found value in the Leverkusen -0&-0.5 at [1.97] in the Asian Handicap. You only lose half your stake on the draw which is a nice safety net in such a match.
Other fixtures this weekend include Hoffenheim at home to Wolfsburg, and with the visitors yet to win away from home this season, Hoffenheim look a tasty back at [2.2]. Hamburg go to the Olympic Stadium to face Hertha, who impressively put Hoffenheim to the sword last weekend. And with Hamburg also looking so poor on their travels, Hertha are certainly worth investing in at [2.72]. Happy punting.
