Who will win the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday?

"Effectively an early-season Derby Trial, with 4 of the 7 entered at Epsom, including David Livingston and Call To Battle."

Timeform take you through the field for the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday...

David Livingston cemented his status as a smart juvenile when making all in the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh last September. Bred to be suited by 1¼m+ but will need to be on his game shouldering a 5 lb penalty.

Athens was odds on for last 2 runs in maidens, winning by 1½ lengths over 1m at Listowel, and ended his 2-y-o campaign finishing 10 lengths third to David Livingston in the Beresford. Improvement to find.

Call To Battle is stoutly bred and stamina looked his strong suit as he ground at wins in Curragh maiden and listed event (9f) here last autumn. Will be well suited by the extra 1f and open to further improvement.

Hit The Jackpot was blinkered when making all at Galway on last of 3 starts in maidens last summer. Improved again when fourth to Light Heavy here on return (held when badly hampered) but even more on plate now.

Light Heavy left debut form behind when beating Furner's Green (engaged in 14:55) over 1m here on return. Shaped as if this extra 2f will suit and not to be dismissed lightly for all he needs to improve.

Tower Rock improved with every run last autumn, winning Navan maiden then 2½ lengths third to Call To Battle in 9f listed event here. Carried head high in latter and has to progress again to reverse that form.

While You Wait is bred to be useful, but showed little in 2 starts last October, including when last in a Group 3 here. Looks to be flying too high again on return.

Timeform 1-2-3
1. Call To Battle
2. David Livingston
3. Light Heavy

Timeform View: Effectively an early-season Derby Trial, with 4 of the 7 entered at Epsom, including David Livingston and Call To Battle. Both created a good impression at 2 yrs, but preference is for the latter, who is less exposed and guaranteed to relish the extra distance. Light Heavy also impressed on his reappearance here and can reach a place.
