Black Caviar coasts home for consecutive win number 14

"While she now shares a 14 race winning run with Phar Lap, Black Caviar still has other Australian greats in her sights in that regard. Bernborough and Carbine lay another win ahead on 15 and then Ajax on 18."

Australia's champion unbeaten race mare Black Caviar equalled the immortal Phar Lap's longest winning streak of 14 with a breath-taking victory in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday...

Racegoers who flocked to Caulfield to witness another "Caviar moment" were not disappointed, Black Caviar sailing away from seven rivals to win under a hold by over four lengths.

While she now shares a 14 race winning run with Phar Lap, Black Caviar still has other Australian greats in her sights in that regard. Bernborough and Carbine lay another win ahead on 15 and then Ajax on 18.

However Black Caviar's 14 straight wins are special in their own right. She holds the record for the most consecutive wins by a mare on Australian soil and hers remains the only unbeaten 14 start career winning streak whereas those ahead of her registered their consecutive wins at various stages during their careers.

Resuming from a spell, her last start was in the Group 1 BTC Cup at Doomben back in May, Black Caviar looked to have derived plenty of benefit from her break from racing.

She jumped away smartly and after balancing up early, usual rider Luke Nolen then put her into the race tracking the speed set by Karuta Queen.

On the home turn she appeared to be travelling well within herself and had the field covered. Once Nolen asked her to quicken, she did so quite easily, idling home well clear of handy three-year-old and easy last start Sydney winner Karuta Queen.

Trainer Peter Moody makes no secret of the fact he believes she will be an even better horse this preparation. After today it is hard to argue with that view.

An analysis of the performance considering the form and rating profile of the opposition going into the race shows Black Caviar running to a Timeform rating of 133+, just two pounds short of her current master rating 135.

A review of Race standards for past Schillaci Stakes renewals also support a 133 rating, the figure being in the mid range of possible values.

The overall race time recorded by Black Caviar on a dead (4) surface was 56.73 seconds, almost a second inside standard for the track and distance.

Her sectional splits also make interesting reading, breaking 11 seconds in each 200m segment from the 600m to the 200m, then despite easing down posting the fastest last 200m at 11.55 seconds.

It was another monster performance by the world's top rated sprinter.

The mare has now recorded back-to-back wins in the Schillaci and it goes without saying Black Caviar is the highest rated winner in history of the Schillaci Stakes.

Black Caviar definitely has more to give this campaign putting her current master Timeform rating under siege at her next couple of runs before heading back to the spelling paddocks ahead of an overseas campaign in 2012 that will include Royal Ascot.
