Black Caviar goes for win number 15 on Saturday

Undefeated Australian supermare Black Caviar heads the supporting cast on Cox Plate day at Moonee Valley on Saturday as she goes for her fifteenth straight win in the Group 2 Schweppes Stakes (05:20 BST)....

Black Caviar equaled Phar Lap's record of 14 straight victories when taking the Schillaci Stakes and is closing in on the Australasian record of 19 consecutive wins, held jointly by Desert Gold and Gloaming.

Peter Moody's mare is following the same path as last year and heads into Saturday's $300,000 Schweppes Stakes with little to fear, having plenty to spare on Timeform ratings against her four declared rivals as she bids to add to last year's five-and-a-half length success.

Standing in Black Caviar's way is Scenic Blast, who many will remember for his foray to Britain in 2009, when he landed the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. Scenic Blast is back in the care of Perth trainer Dan Morton after an unsuccessful five-start campaign in America last year and will be having his first run in Australia since winning the Newmarket Handicap in 2009.

Other rivals to Black Caviar on Saturday are Here de Angels, who was second to Black Caviar in last year's Group 2 Australia Stakes, Doubtful Jack and Balavan, the last-named a stablemate of Black Caviar.

The Schweppes Stakes is one of four Group 2 races on the Moonee Valley card on which French-trained star Americain will have his first Australian start since winning last year's Emirates Melbourne Cup in the $250,000 Drake International Cup, due off at 06:00 BST.

The Alain de Royer Dupre-trained seven-year-old, who was only tenth in the Prix Kergorlay (a race he won in 2010) when last seen, is joined in the race by Bart Cummings' German import Illo, a Group 3 winner in his homeland.

Timeform Radio will be covering the Moonee Valley card on Saturday with a live broadcast including commentaries and analysis, so make sure you tune in.

Meanwhile, get yourself up to speed with the form of all the racing Down Under with Timeform's newly-improved free form site, now covering Australia & NZ.

Why the barrier draw debacle around BC? Comes under the heading of "that's racing" everyone takes their chances.. She could break a leg.. Who's to blame then.? What happens when the next " champion" comes along, are they going to allowed the same rules?
I think not!! Come Aussies, get it right for once!
