Patsy Hall bids to boost his chances in the Royal & SunAlliance Chase at the Cheltenham Festival by taking on genuine Gold Cup contenders at Leopardstown on Saturday.
Fellow Irish SunAlliance fancy Cailin Alainn followed the same path a fortnight ago, when showing up prominently before falling three out in the Letheby & Christopher Chase at Cheltenham won by Exotic Dancer. She is now clear second favourite (8) behind Denman (3.75), in the Betfair market for the three-mile novices' event in March.
Patsy Hall can also expect to be cut from 17 if he holds his own against the likes of Lexus Chase winner The Listener, last year's Gold Cup third Forget The Past and Leopardstown specialist Beef Or Salmon in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup (16:00). Beef Or Salmon wears blinkers for the first time in his 43-race career on Saturday.
The Robert Alner-trained The Listener is currently on offer at 11.5 in the Gold Cup market headed by Kauto Star (2.52), with Forget The Past on 40.
Denman and Kauto Star are both set to run at Newbury on Saturday.
