Timeform take a close look at a trainer who is racking up big successes, one who has hit a purple patch and another who is struggling form...

Kevin Ryan's strike rate so far in 2009 is only an average 12%, but his string has been performing at a much higher level recently, with a number of his better runners racking up big successes in the last week. From Ryan's last nine runners, he has had five winners, at an impressive strike rate of 56%, and this doesn't alone reveal the current success that the Thirsk trainer is having. Old-stager Benbaun landed his seventh success at the Curragh, in the Group Three Sapphire stakes on Sunday, while smart front-runner Tamagin landed a Class 2 handicap at Windsor on Saturday, and useful sprinter Roker Park gained success in similar company at Newcastle on Saturday. The strike rate was almost boosted again on Monday, but the quirky Northern Empire was narrowly denied in a seller at Wolverhampton.

Michael Jarvis has hit a purple patch in the last week, with the Kremlin House handler sending out five winners from his last thirteen runners, at a strike rate of 38%, with three of those runners also finishing second. Most significant of those winners was All The Aces, impressive in the listed Fred Archer stakes at Newmarket. He showed smart form at three and looks a pattern winner in waiting, granted his preferred easy ground conditions.

One trainer struggling for form is Tim Easterby, who has had a nightmare run recently. From his last ninety-one runners, Easterby has only had one winner, at a lowly strike-rate of under 2%, a surprising statistic for one of the higher-profile Northern trainers.
