Timeform Horses In Focus: A most progressive performance from Corporal Maddox

Timeform take a close look at three horses with big things on the horizon...
Corporal Maddox finished with a real rattle to head Walkingonthemoon on the line and win the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom on Saturday. Karl Burke's colt looks most progressive and is still getting the hang of things; he was very green on debut at Nottingham but showed plenty of promise, which was confirmed when victorious in a maiden at Hamilton on his next outing. His running style had suggested that a step up to six furlongs might suit and that was proved to be correct on Saturday as he was slowly away and outpaced early on before finishing strongly. The Woodcote looked well up to standard so far as listed races go and Corporal Maddox certainly deserves a crack at a pattern race, with the July Stakes apparently more likely than Royal Ascot.

Look Here made her reappearance in the Coronation Cup at Epsom on Friday and she produced a fine comeback run to be beaten in a very tight finish by Ask and Youmzain. This was only her fifth career start and she has obviously had her problems but certainly proved here that she retains all her ability and is capable of further Group 1 success. A winner of over £300,000 for connections already, Look Here looks all set for further Group 1 success as a four-year-old and, whilst she's apparently to avoid taking on Sea The Stars, a race such as the Pretty Polly Stakes at the end of June should provide her with an ideal opportunity.

Mad Rush made a successful reappearance in a listed race at Goodwood last week. He had been gelded since a trip to Australia for the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups and proved his well-being by making all under Ryan Moore, hanging on gamely to deny the late thrust of Halicarnassus. Conditions were not ideal for him on this occasion and he is likely to improve further when faced with softer underfoot conditions. Mad Rush reportedly now heads to the Group 3 Curragh Cup at the end of the month.
