A wide-open Group 1. Further rain could scupper the chance of form-pick Fleeting Spirit, and so Main Aim is taken to reverse July Cup placings and provide his jockey/owner with a second successive win in this event. Plenty hold each-way claims, headed by High Standing and Corrybrough, writes Timeform.
Al Qasi produced a series of creditable efforts in pattern company last season but has been below par on both starts this year. Softish ground suits best but he is easy enough to swerve dropped back to sprinting.
Asset showed he retains his ability when going down narrowly in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, but he also still has his quirks, as when shirking the issue at Goodwood last weekend.
Corrybrough was a highly progressive sprinter last year, rounding off his campaign with an excellent fourth to African Rose in this event. His comeback run was promising and he may yet do better still.
Equiano won the King's Stand last year but that is now becoming a distant memory, his form in 2009 way short of Group 1 standard.
High Standing is well worth his place at this level having made giant strides this year, winning the Wokingham en route to completing a 4-timer in a Group 3 event at Newbury last time on softish ground.
J J The Jet Plane is a high-class sprinter who returned to his best when third in the July Cup at Newmarket. He possibly found the race coming too soon at Goodwood next time and can be expected to bounce back for a new yard.
Judd Street is a speedy sort who holds his form well, though he is biting off more than he can chew in this company.
Main Aim is a high-class performer who hacked up in a Group 3 here in May. His latest run can be forgiven (banged head in stall) and his form when runner-up in the July Cup at Newmarket gives him every chance.
Regal Parade is a tough sort who has returned to his very best of late, winning a listed race before being placed in a couple of Group 2 events. However, he struggled on his previous try at the highest level and a similar story is likely.
Art Connoisseur came back with a bang when winning the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot, but there is a strong suspicion that the form is muddling and he has plenty to prove following a disappointing display in the July Cup.
Bushranger is a dual Group 1-winning juvenile who has failed to fire on both runs this year, looking very awkward in a first-time visor last time, raising suspicions that he hasn't trained on.
Finjaan was back to his best when winning the Betfair Cup at Goodwood last time and a return to sprinting should suit if anything. He is a player with the stable resurgent.
Sayif was placed in three Group 2s and finished second in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes last season, before bouncing back to his best when fifth in a weak Group 1 at Deauville last time. This looks tougher.
Fleeting Spirit was an impressive winner on her reappearance here in 2008 and has since stamped herself as the best sprinting filly since Lochsong, winning the July Cup last time. Further rain could scupper her chance, however.
