The ladbrokespoker.com Handicap (Class 5) St Leger week begins with an exceptionally moderate day's racing. Kieren Fallon belatedly got his comeback off the mark at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening and his quest for winners moves on to Folkestone, where he'll need to have all his wits about him to coax home the temperamental Magical Speedfit.
Lesley's Choice: Front runner who was in good heart earlier in the year, but well below best recently, and hard to make a case for even taking reduced mark into account now.
Elhamri: Useful when everything drops right, as he showed when winning twice last year, but just the one creditable effort to his name this term and one to treat with caution now.
Corton Charlemagne: Rattled off quick-fire wins at Windsor and Newcastle last month and ran creditably in defeat off this mark at Sandown last time. Definitely one of the likelier sorts.
Even Bolder: Doesn't put his head in front very often and not in the best form of late, finding less than had seemed likely at Sandown last time. Risky betting proposition.
Magical Speedfit: Temperamental sort who has gained both career wins at Brighton. Looking well treated at present, though, and sure to have his supporters with Kieren Fallon booked.
Simple Rhythm: Prominent racer, back to form when scoring at Southwell in June. Unlucky to bump into an improver when second in seller at Ripon last time and shouldn't be far away once more for new yard.
Chris's Jem: Off the mark at the third attempt in 5f fast-ground maiden at Folkestone, but struggled off unrealistic mark since in handicaps, and probably wants a bit more leniency.
Ten Down: Held form well on AW in the spring, but gone off the boil badly of late, and has to be opposed even off career-low mark.
Malapropism: Not the force of old and more modest efforts than good these days. Worth taking on from 4 lb out of the weights.
