Timeform take a look at a trio of horses it pays not to back...
The Michael Blanshard-trained sprinter Charles Darwin was a useful performer in 2006, but has been performing to a fairly useful level this season and landed a Class 5 handicap at Wolverhampton on Friday evening. However, his recent record shows he is not the most reliable and it might be worth taking the gelding on when he bids for a follow-up next time.
Thomas Baines had looked promising in the early stages of this season, but the Michael Bell-trained juvenile failed to go on initially, looking ungenuine on a number of occasions. The son of Johannesburg finally confirmed that early promise when comfortably winning a nursery at Wolverhampton on Friday night. Judging by previous starts, though, Thomas Baines wouldn't be one to trust to build on that effort.
The record of King's Icon might appear to be quite consistent at first glance, but there is no coincidence that he has finished second on his last four outings, having shown himself not to be straightforward in the past. The application of headgear on a more regular basis of late is further evidence of the gelding being temperamental, and he would worth taking on next time, considering he is likely to be prominent in the market.
