Russian Trigger was successful in the Kent National at Folkestone on Tuesday and it was a surprise he landed the prize for his generally out-of-form stable, surviving numerous mistakes to challenge before two out and knuckling down better than might have been expected. He was well served by the increased test of stamina and the shortcomings of the opposition, so may struggle to follow up, particularly away from such soft fences, and a possible run in the Devon National under a penalty next week may come too soon.

Noticeable's followed up his selling success at Doncaster nine days earlier when winning a claimer at the course in similarly easy style on Friday, but it's early days to be suggesting he's a reformed character and his chance back in handicaps is no better for these 2 wins, barely having to leave the bridle on either occasion. He remains one to be wary of stepping up in grade.

Peter Bowen's Sir Monty has an inconsistent profile, and, not unexpectedly, failed to match his Exeter run (fourth to Penn Da Benn) when finishing third in a conditional jockeys event at Ludlow on Thursday. For all that he was beaten only by two vast improvers, he didn't look an easy ride for his inexperienced jockey, racing in snatches and making mistakes.
