After a disappointing couple of weeks, Robin Keck decides to liven things up by wringing the changes... But should he be more patient?
I feel like I missed the bleedin' obvious last week having avoided some of the clear form trainers who kept up their good run.
Richard Fahey and Clive Cox were hotter than the Hell Summer BBQ (sorry - I've been reading too many metaphor frenzied columns by 'The Couch') and my shrewd judgement that the market would soon over-compensate was just plain wrong.
To make matters worse, my two stables to oppose bounced back before the ink was even dry on my previous column. Luckily Brian Meehan sacked himself from the Cold List (according to the rule list from last week) before he could do too much damage with two consecutive placed horses. I still believe this stable isn't quite firing but I'll look elsewhere for the time being. Venetia also had a winner before two were unplaced and she's also off the cold radar. This will disappoint the Betfair picture editor who will have to get a picture of someone else for my column - sorry to be laddish but if it doesn't have to be racing related can I suggest the female trainee doctor in the new series of 'House'?
The only bright light this week was the nice priced winner 'Minturno' for Anne Duffield who won at [14.5] (BSP) while Tom Tate's runners also disappointed me.
After a poor week it's time to change the entire stable. Howard Johnson, Ollie Pears and Richard Ford's horses are starting to run really well so make up the Hot list. On the flip side both James Fanshawe and Amanda Perrett are having a rare cool period so they can have that list to themselves.
I have to say that this has been an unusually quiet period for this betting strategy as none of the stables of the right size is under performing on a regular basis. This can all change in a couple of hours of course, and I have my eyes peeled but my betting has been flat-lining for two weeks now and it's getting dull. History tells me I often lose patience around now and start accumulating losses so I'll write 'I must be disciplined and patient' 100 times before bed every night. Sometime soon, Mark Johnston will hit a cold period (it happens every season) and with his huge stable there will be ample opportunity to oppose him when the time is right (nothing personal).
Total starting bank = £250
Week One Result = -£10
Closing Bank = £240
A slightly disappointing start but I didn't get where I am today without...

I've just caught up with your Betfair column. It's v.good and, more importantly, highly readable.
It would be interesting to see your net results versus those hacks in the NAPS tipping table published each day in the RP, can't quite remember what that table is called - but you will know the one I mean. That would be a good yardstick.
You are now on the brink of being the new Clement Freud - and look what happened to him! Have you considered including the occasional joke/story?
The lighthearted tone makes you column just right for me, so good luck and keep up the good work.
