Beef Or Salmon has been given the thumbs up for a fifth crack at next month's Cheltenham Gold Cup following his dramatic last-gasp victory over The Listener in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Leopardstown's weekend meeting.
"Beef Or Salmon was bucking and kicking when we let him out in the paddock," explained trainer Micheal Hourigan. "Blinkers seemed to help him and we'll probably leave them on for Cheltenham."
The gelding has yet to better his three-and-a-half length fourth to Best Mate in the 2004 Gold Cup but has come in for some support in Betfair's ante-post market and is on offer at 38.
Meanwhile 2.92 favourite Kauto Star remains firmly at the top of the Betfair Gold Cup market, despite only just scraping home against L'Ami in a thrilling finale to Newbury's Aon Chase on Saturday.
Some punters believe he would not be allowed to get away with a similar mistake at Cheltenham but trainer Paul Nicholls remains positive and insists he will get his star right for the Gold Cup.
He said: "He keeps winning and everyone is being too negative."
