Sunday Racing: Paul Nicholls on his runners at Exeter and Hereford

View market

It's a triple treat of Weekend Runners columns from Paul with views on his Sunday runners at Exeter and Hereford to accompany the two Saturday editions. Enjoy!

14:10, Exeter
Cap Elorn: Finished a decent fourth in a Worcester bumper in October but has yet to show a great deal in two start over hurdles, though he ran OK when sixth at Wincanton last time. Still needs experience and probably won't be seen to best effect until sent over fences.

14:40, Exeter
Cedre Bleu: This is a race we won last year with Najaf, and with Noland in the past, and Cedre Bleu showed he is a horse of no little potential himself when beating Titan De Sarti by 10 lengths on his debut for us at Newbury last time. Looks every inch a chaser and won't be going to Cheltenham this season. But he will like this stiff track and the ground and gets 12lb from the highly-regarded Spirit Son, who looked good at Huntingdon, so that will make things very interesting here. Looks a good race.

15:10, Exeter

Definity: I would have loved to have run The Tother One in this but it is too soft for him, so I rely on Definity, with Pride Of Dulcote going to Ascot next week. Do not underestimate Definity - he is a horse I really like. He ran far too free first time up when in need of the run but he made all and jumped really well when beating Straw Bear at Fontwell last time. That was over 2m4f but he clearly gets 3m really well, and he has a number of options at Cheltenham, with the Sun Alliance still a live possibility.

15:40, Exeter
Water Garden: Similar sort to Cap Elorn in that he showed decent bumper form first time out - in his case finishing a length second to Camden at Fontwell in November, with the pair 17 lengths clear - before disappointing slightly over hurdles. In fairness, the Plumpton novice hurdle in which he finished fifth wasn't a bad race. But he needs time and probably fences, too.

16:40, Exeter
War Of The World: Is a Lost World half-brother to a number of hurdling winners in France, including the classy Gray Steel. But, as ever, the same comment applies to all of my newcomers in bumpers; whatever he does today, he will improve upon.

15:00, Hereford
Don't Turn Bach: Showed smart bumper form when with Willie Mullins but it is fair to say that he has disappointed in three starts for me. But he travelled like a dream before weakening 2 out over 2m4f at Ffos Las last time, so I am hoping that 2m with cut in the ground (conditions in which he won his Irish bumpers) will see him in a much better light here.

15:30, Hereford
Violin Davis: Won a 1m6f Fontwell bumper in October and left the form of her modest hurdling debut behind when a good, length second over 2m4f at Taunton last time. Is one of mine who wouldn't want it too soft, but she has a decent shout here.

Just a word to say thanks for putting the column up for us on this site. I always followed you on teletext until itsdemise. I am a huge fan of the stable and think when you punt a horse from this stable you always get a run for your money as they always try and you always get honest info from the column. Hope all the horses can come back ok this weekend and hope its not too long until Ruby makes his comeback

I agree . It is superb to have Paul's thoughts on his runners and he is always totally honest and transparent . It is a shame that at the moment his horses are JUST not quite delivering; a whole lot of seconds again this week. i am sure what he has told us about January flu vaccinations has got something to do with it . Keep the faith, he always comes good in the end !!
