Celestial Halo is in good shape at the moment
"Celestial Halo -Is clearly up against it off a mark of 160 here but he won well at Wincanton (admittedly Grandouet fell there) and is in good order."
A newcomer and an old favourite are in action for Paul at Newbury on Saturday. Here are his thoughts on the pair of them.
14.05 Newbury
This is obviously a red-hot race for him to be making his debut for us. We have had him since October, having purchased him from France, where he won a novice chase over 2m1f at Enghien in September. Is a lovely, big scopey, rangy horse who has done loads of work and has schooled nicely. I think he will best on better ground. But he is clearly massively up against it in this company.
*Criqtonic has been declared a non-runner.
Celestial Halo
I think it may be best to ignore his disappointing run in the Fighting Fifth last time as that is the second time he has stayed away overnight, and both times he has run below par. Is clearly up against it off a mark of 160 here but he won well at Wincanton (admittedly Grandouet fell there) and is in good order. Is a hard horse to place these days and we were thinking about stepping him up to 3m, but I think this could ride a very testing 2m, especially if more rain arrives, and that would suit.
