Will Paul's good form continue at Chepstow on Saturday?
"Showing a pleasing level of progression from his first start to his second, Themilanhorse is certainly on the up and with promising conditional James Cowley again taking the ride, he could well prove good enough once more."
It's been a great spell for the Nicholls yard recently with a hat-trick at Taunton on Tuesday and all of their last 13 runners to complete finishing in the first four. Here's the Timeform view on his chances of more of the same this weekend...
Chepstow's meeting on Saturday is the only port of call for Nicholls' horses this weekend and the first of them is the ex-French Twist Pistol (14.15), who makes his British debut in the opening novice hurdle. Unplaced in three bumper starts in his homeland, he won his only outing over hurdles by two and a half lengths when last seen in January and looks an exciting prospect for his new trainer. However, Bally Legend and The Chazer both set a good standard and he will need to be on his A-game to beat them after a two month break.
The following race is also a novice hurdle and sees Rangitoto (14.45) attempt to build upon his two placed efforts since coming over from Ireland, where he was a winner of his single point start. Still green when only third last time, he remains open to improvement and looks more than capable of winning a race such as this, although Stormy Gale and Baile Anrai rate as dangers.
The handicap hurdle (16.25) is set to feature two representatives from the yard in the shape of R de Rien Sivola, who has only been seen over fences in her last four starts and had been off for over 16 months prior to her return, and That'lldoboy, who shaped better than the bare result last time when travelling well for most of the race. Granted, both need to show improved for to win what looks an open race, but it's possible that we haven't seen the best of either of them yet and they each have a chance of providing the yard with another good result.
The final runner of the day, and of the weekend, is last-time-out winner Themilanhorse, who lines up in what looks a competitive bumper at 18.05. Showing a pleasing level of progression from his first start to his second, Themilanhorse is certainly on the up and with promising conditional James Cowley again taking the ride, he could well prove good enough once more.
