Taranis misses Saturday's Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham after showing an unsatisfactory trachea wash
"I suppose if you are going to have a “lull” in the season, as we all do, then rather January than March."
Random tests throughout yard as 'careful' Paul checks the stable for any signs of illness
There has obviously been a lot of discussion about the form of my horses of late, even though we are still ticking along at a very healthy 25 per cent strike rate this season.
Clearly, we have had a few more disappointments than usual this month, even though January is traditionally one of our quietest spells. But, as I said last week, there are valid, individual, reasons for many of the below par efforts, and we continue to have winners.
But you cannot be complacent in this game, so I have decided to take random blood tests and trachea washes from the horses this week.
And a couple have come back not quite right.
Plenty Pocket had a mild infection similar to that of Kauto Star, while we pulled Taranis out of the Argento Chase tomorrow because of an unsatisfactory trachea wash.
But certainly nothing is coughing or ill.
And I suppose if you are going to have a "lull" in the season, as we all do, then rather January than March.

i thought paul nicholls was going to talk about his runners for tommorows racing at cheltenham and doncaster meetings.i have checked back on betfair website alot of times,no news.his latest news page talking about his runners for tom racing is usually online friday night.if i was betfair i would get my money back.prices are up for most of the races already,so how are we supposed to get an edge betting on betfair when we are getting his opinion later and later.also some of his horses are getting backed already ,so betfair must be an after thought !

Paul, he announced on Facebook and Twitter that the column would now go live at 8am on Saturday. Perhaps you should blame Betfair for not making this clear, not Nicholls.
