Is Long Run the biggest threat to Cheltenham Gold Cup champion Imperial Commander?
Kauto Star was defeated in his bid for an historic fifth King George VI Chase as Long Run ran out a convincing winner at Kempton on Saturday...
Kauto Star was sent off odds on under Tony McCoy to complete the record-breaking five-timer but didn't travel as well as he can and, after a couple of sloppy jumps (including a particularly bad one two out), the game soon looked up.
Nicky Henderson's Long Run, on the other hand, jumped much better than has sometimes been the case, and when amateur rider Sam Waley-Cohen pushed the button, the gambled-on Long Run responded well, eventually running out a twelve-length winner from Riverside Theatre, who stayed on into second without posing a threat to give the stable a memorable 1-2. Paul Nicholls' Kauto Star was seven lengths further back in third.
On the back of his brilliant success, Long Run has shortened considerably in the Cheltenham Gold Cup market, now available to back at [8.0], while defending champion Imperial Commander has also come in a little bit, now trading at [4.6].

Watching Kauto yesterday reminded me of Moscow Flyer's last season where he just didn't have that extra gear that made him so special. But Kauto ran a similar race up at Haydock in the Betfair one time and rebounded spectacularly to win the KG and Gold Cup.
Can't believe it was December 04 when he beat Foreman. How time flies. When you think of all the courses he's won big races at: Cheltenham, Kempton, Haydock, Sandown, Aintree, Ascot, Newbury, Down Royal, all from 2 miles to three miles two. All that's left now is to get that Exeter hoodoo off his back!
An extraordinary horse.

well cant say im surprised, kautos won 4 king georges, but what has he beat in them ? mainly exposed handicappers or non stayers, the king george is traditionally a weak race, but he meets a good un in long run today and gets annialated, people have short memeories, to saykauto is better than d.orchid is rubbish and rightfully he didnt break his record, kauto is not the best chaser ever peoplehwo know racing know that, when hes met a goodun who can put it to him like denman, long run, his jumping falls apart and he doesnt perform

No wonder 'Anonymous' is anonymous, can't believe anyone using this forum has such little knowledge so as not to respect Two Gold Cups and Four King Georges let alone victories in Ireland and Lancashire in extremely prestigious races. You must be loaded backing 'gooduns' all the time !!!
