Dettori to miss July Cup

Frankie Dettori will have to sit out the Darley July Cup next Friday as it coincides with the start of a 14-day riding ban he collected on Wednesday.

Dettori was forced to go before the disciplinary committee of the Horseracing Regulatory Authority over his use of the whip on Ramonti, winner of the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The former champion jockey struck his mount 25 times in the last two and half furlongs of the race and the panel decided he was in breach of the rules for hitting his mount with excessive frequency and not giving it enough time to respond.

The July Cup is sponsored by Dettori's boss, Sheikh Mohammed, but the Italian was not due to ride any of the frontrunners in the market for the Group 1 sprint.

Betfair's ante-post market is headed by the Hughie Morrison-trained Sakhee's Secret (4.5) and Richard Hannon's Asset (5.5).
