"Roger Charlton has his three-year-olds in good order at the minute and Dizziness has a fitness edge over her rival at the head of the market, so we’re just going to put our faith in her alone."
With two sizeable pots landed this week, and a host of unexposed three-year-olds making Sandown a tricky proposition, Wolverhampton's run-of-the-mill all-weather meeting today looks an ideal opportunity to settle things down before a crack at one of the much tougher assignments tomorrow.
1:25 - Contradiktive, who makes his debut for Tim Vaughan from a basement mark, is by far the most interesting one in a modest handicap so he's worth including, along with Feet of Fury. The latter never really delivered on a promising start to her career but looks fairly treated off a mark of 55 and just about convinced at this trip on her final outing in 2009.
1:55 - We won't be searching for any big results in the second leg. Roger Charlton has his three-year-olds in good order at the minute and Dizziness has a fitness edge over her rival at the head of the market, so we're just going to put our faith in her alone.
2:30 - Lightly-raced types who are on the up stand out a mile when lined up with a bunch of disappointing sorts in plating company, so it seems logical to have both Kenswick, who should be suited by the drop back in trip, and Catherine's Call on side in the seller.
3:05 - A withdrawl in the eight-runner sprint handicap between the time of writing and 3.05 would make things much harder as there's very little to split this lot. Although 8 lb higher than when successful over course and distance in March, Master Lightfoot is clearly thriving and has to be included, but the only concern regarding him is the fear he might get involved in a pace battle, and if they do go too hard up front, the well-handicapped The Jobber is the one we want on side to take advantage.
3:35 - It's probably best to keep it simple in what strikes as the trickiest race on the card, still just the two selections, however. Bajan Pride and Kielty's Folly do have the worst of the draw, but solid recent form, especially under similar conditions, counts for plenty in such a weak race and the remainder all have something to prove in one way or another.
4:05 - Finally, there seems very little doubt that Aegean King has been brought along with handicaps in mind and looks very interesting now hiked up in trip after a break. Having said that, he's not the only one who comes into this looking favourably handicapped, and could be worth opposing with Blue Charm and Goose Green, the latter now below his last winning mark and shaping as if back in form at Kempton last time.
