The 13.40 at Warwick looks likely to be a slog over the 3¼m trip, and Victor Dartnall's Jayyjay Valentine can show his worth over regulation fences for the first time.

The selection, a son of Double Trigger, has cut little ice in three hurdles outings at up to 21f this season, but he was unbeaten in three completed starts between the flags last year, and is more likely to be effective here than he has been in three runs right-handed, where he has hung and jumped notably to his left. Dartnall's Devon yard is in very good form at present, and Jayjay Valentine gets weight from all but two of his rivals. Stamina isn't absolutely guaranteed, but his point wins and his sire's influence are positives.

In the 14:15, Folie A Deux makes his debut for Dr Richard Newland, having done the rounds of trainers, including Henrietta Knight, Tom George, Gerald Ham, Nigel Hawke and Colin Tizzard. He's done well for the last named in a tongue tie, winning twice over 2m at Uttoxeter and finding the trip too far under an aggressive ride last time. A drop back to the minimum with the assistance of Tony McCoy is likely to see him back in top form, and this race hinges on which of he and recent Folkestone winner Jeczmien can dominate. The latter had a poor field to beat last time and may not want to be taken on, whereas the top-weight is a little more amenable to restraint where needed, so he gets a confident vote.
