Kempton is the only UK meeting on Wednesday
"Discoverer's debut form reads well and he had a fair bit left to give when winning last time."
David Cleary selects a pair of intriguing bets from today sole remaining meeting at Kempton...
Frost has claimed all three of this afternoon's scheduled jumps cards, so it's left to Kempton to keep the show on the road, its twilight card brought forward into the afternoon. The five-furlong handicap at 15:25 offers a decent chance for Lady Caprice to complete a hat-trick but there may be a bet against her, at least on a back-to-lay basis, and that is Gin Twist. She was impressive when winning a nursery over this trip at Wolverhampton on her penultimate start and her effort next time over further in a much better race can be forgiven. She's been off seven weeks but her stable, that of Tom Dascombe, is in good form.
The best race on the card is the seven-furlong handicap at 16:30. Pale Orchid has won both her starts this year and still looks on a good mark but she isn't sure to be so effective over this trip, despite stamina in her pedigree, looking a headstrong sort. Discoverer and Fairway To Heaven are unexposed sorts, who have been given fair marks for their handicap debut, particularly Discoverer, whose debut form reads well and who had a fair bit left to give when winning last time. He's worth backing against the favourite. Backing both him and Fairway To Heaven, who showed a good turn of foot to make a winning debut, is also an option for those wanting to oppose the favourite.
