How will our Wolverhampton bets fare?

"There could well be some mileage in backing Cotton King win and place at current odds."

Paul Smith has found plenty of appeal in today's cards at Wolverhampton and Windsor

Cotton King is building a reputation as something of a Wolverhampton specialist and he looks to be overpriced at around the [9.0] mark in the staying handicap at 15:15.

Four times a winner at the track, he ran as well as he ever has when fourth there last time, doing best of those held up in a race in which a lack of pace found him out.

Arizona John, who finished two places behind him on that occasion, was also held up and has come out and franked the form and it could be that Cotton King's effort was much better than it would first appear.

There are a couple of younger improvers in the field, notably Covert Decree and Al Khawaneej, but the latter doesn't have the headgear on that saw him win so impressively on his final start for Ed Dunlop.

With Mister Green looking a doubtful stayer and Rajeh having a huge amount to prove, there could well be some mileage in backing Cotton King win and place at current odds.

In the following maiden (15:45), there were very few who made much appeal and Sareeah can confirm the promise of her Kempton debut.

She was clueless on that occasion, blowing the start, racing wide and doing just about everything wrong. The fact that she was able to finish as close as she did points to her having inherited plenty of the family ability and it would be disappointing if she didn't know more this time.

She is currently trading at around the [5.0] mark and that looks fair enough in a race with few obvious contenders.

Windsor's card is much trappier but I can't resist having a go on Chris Wall's Pearl Blue in the sprint at 17:00.

There are negatives surrounding her chance - an absence, a high draw and the possibility that the ground will be faster than she cares for - but, on the plus side, she is an unexposed course winner who still has her best days ahead of her.

The manner with which she dismissed her rivals here and at Sandown last season was such that this mark is unlikely to prove beyond her - it is rare enough to win a sprint handicap by five lengths so to do it twice earmarks her as a very interesting filly.

The ground angle may be slightly overplayed too - her improvement coincided with a switch to easy ground but it also happened to be when she went handicapping.

Good ground at Windsor in April shouldn't be beyond her and the risk is worth taking at the current odds of [13.0] - a price that more than factors in any other concerns given she is still unexposed in a field awash with seasoned campaigners.
