The afternoon's best card is in Ireland, with Gowran Park staging the Thyestes Chase meeting. The feature, which is due off at 15.05, looks typically wide open, with the market showing [10.0] the field on Betfair. It's probably better to concentrate on some less competitive events at the British jumps fixtures, Newcastle and Warwick.

The conditional jockeys hurdle at Newcastle (15:15) ought to be between Mahfal and Realignment, with preference at the prices for the latter.

Mahfal remains unexposed and the step up in trip will suit him but his jumping so far has left something to be desired. Realignment has had more chances but has more solid form claims; the drop in trip will suit him and it's interesting he wears blinkers first time since joining Donald McCain, having run his best races in Ireland in headgear.

At Warwick, Inga Bird has a lot going for him in the handicap chase at 13.55. He may well get an uncontested lead, he's taken quickly to fences, the form of his last two races has worked out well and his trainer Henry Daly's stable is in good form at the moment. Inga Bird should have no problem with a slightly longer trip and looks the day's best bet.
