"Spirit River was outpaced behind the reopposing Get Me Out of Here in a moderately run C&D handicap last November... "
Timeform Radio's Jeremy Grayson makes two selection from this afternoon's racing...
There could be surprisingly little pace in Newbury's feature handicap, the Totesport Trophy Hurdle (15:05), despite the huge field. Chaninbar has led the last thrice, but nothing else does so especially often, if at all.
That could hurt a few leading fancies. In particular, Spirit River was outpaced behind the reopposing Get Me Out of Here in a moderately run C&D handicap last November, and although greatly respected, he's more of a back-to-lay proposition should a slovenly pace ensue again here. Conversely, Get Me Out Of Here stormed home despite having been waited with longer, and seems less dependent on a truly run race at this trip to deliver a decisive challenge.
The one horse in the race with a Timeform "p", and actually 6lb better off with Spirit River today, Get Me Out Of Here is taken to hold off Timeform's top-rated Manyriverstocross, whose mark of 135 on this handicap debut looks very generous judged on his Sandown Grade 2 winning form but who seems like another requiring a searching test to excel at this trip.
In marked contrast to that race, Warwick's 2m4f handicap chase (15.20) may feature any or all of Tamarinbleu, The Vicar, Victoria's Groom, Super Formen and Saphir De Bois trying to snaffle a lead, and fates could be sealed by doing too much out in front. With one win and one very near-miss from three previous chases at this trip, Saphir De Bois is worth a look if habitual hold-up jockey Richie McLernon can persuade him to decline the worst excesses of the early pace.
