It's the first day of spring and the Festival is now a little over two weeks away. Ah, it's almost enough to make a man break into a rousing chorus of the Cheltenham song to celebrate, but life would be better still if we can start the week on a winning note. Graham Cunningham selects the best bets.

It would be easy enough to nominate Hayley Turner's Juicy Pear as a tempting prospect in Wolverhampton's 16:10 (please stop sniggering at the back) but I'm off to Plumpton and Hereford for one solid form choice and one potential improver today.

Awesome George is the safe option in Hereford's 15:30 based on his gutsy Ascot defeat of the useful Zemsky. He was predictably outpaced in a race run at a crawl at Cheltenham subsequently, but a break should have done him good and anything bigger than [2.9] looks fair.

Taking skinny odds when the ground is like a bog at Plumpton can be very risky and, for all that Action Impact has the form to win the 14:20, I suspect there could be each way value in siding with Hoback Junction.

Lucy Wadham's horses are in great nick and this gelding caught the eye travelling kindly on the pace in a much stronger contest at Doncaster on his hurdling debut. He moves like a horse who could relish the mud and I reckon he should be at least five points shorter than his current Betfair price of [12.0] and bigger.
