A seven-race card at Naas gets underway at 13:15
"He caught the eye when second to a far more positively-ridden rival on his handicap bow in this sphere at Limerick and then cemented the positive impression made that day when runner-up at Down Royal last time"
Naas hosts today's Irish action and we've come up with three more SmartPlays.....
The nineteen-furlong maiden hurdle at 14:25 isn't a strong affair, so a place lay does come with risks attached, but there are enough negatives surrounding Mystic Desir to make that a viable play. His standout effort for his current yard is slightly suspect for a start (last of five finishers in a steadily-run listed event), while his latest efforts have hinted at temperament, jumping badly right at Leopardstown, something which won't help him here. Lord Gale, Forty Foot Tom and Lean Times are all solid alternatives for a place, while there a couple of other potential improvers lurking as well.
Mister First looks a real standout in the two-and-a-half mile handicap chase thirty minutes later. He caught the eye when second to a far more positively-ridden rival on his handicap bow in this sphere at Limerick and then cemented the positive impression made that day when runner-up at Down Royal last time, going like the best-treated horse for a long way. Both those efforts came at three miles so this shorter trip will almost certainly suit, and he should take all the beating.
Tipping Mozoltov (16:30) in the bumper will win no prizes for originality, but he did look a class act when winning at Thurles last month, making all and not at all hard pressed to beat a next-time-out winner by thirteen lengths, and there is a chance the presence of Clonbanan Lad and The Crafty Butcher in opposition will prevent the price from being too skinny.
