The Thyestes Chase is the feature event on an interesting card at Gowran.....

Warrior One was progressive for Howard Johnson last term, winning two of three starts, and he could be tough to beat in the handicap hurdle at 14:05 if continuing that trend. However, he was sold quite cheaply after his latest start and is unlikely to represent much value, so a better bet could be Might Be Magic. He looks well treated on the form he showed over course and distance at this meeting last year, has a very promising claimer on board and represents a yard that are going well at present.

The Thyestes Chase an hour later looks a typically competitive renewal, and with that in mind a place lay of Glam Gerry could pay dividends. The reasons for his place towards the head of the market are that he was still progressing over hurdles when switched to the larger obstacles, and was an impressive winner on his handicap debut in today's sphere last time. However, that was a weak affair in the context of this afternoon's race and he's been clobbered with a 20 lb rise, while his jumping wasn't foot perfect and seems sure to get put under more pressure in this larger field.

Jack Absolute (15:35) is another last-time-out winner who should be taken on in the handicap chase over two and a half miles. The race he won at Cork wasn't a particularly strong affair and he only just got there having been off the bridle some way out, while a 5 lb rise means that he'll probably need a career-best effort just to make the places in a race that contains plenty of in-form sorts.
