There are two meetings in Ireland today
"Bob Lingo is back down to a handy mark and should be very hard to peg back around here"
Two meetings in Ireland this Saturday, and we have two selections from Down Royal and one from Wexford.
El Fontan (14:40) won both his starts over hurdles for Noel Meade in 2008/9 and has run creditably when making the frame both completed starts over fences, runner-up to Cadogan at Navan last time. He's still lightly raced for one his age and a reproduction of that latest run would see him take all the beating at Down Royal this afternoon.
The other beginners chase on the Down Royal card (16:20) is likely to boil down to a straight fight between Mackeys Forge and The Shepherd and, though it's not easy to choose between that duo, The Shepherd earns the vote. Progressive over timber last term, twice a winner of handicaps, he ran his best race yet over fences when a ½-length second to Gran Torino here earlier in the season, and that form is the best on offer.
Bob Lingo (16:30) has been a bit in and out this year but has conditions in his favour today and could be hard to catch around a tight circuit like Wexford. Thomas Mullins' front runner ran away with a maiden chase at Fairyhouse last season and has rarely had things go his way since. He's back down to a handy mark and should be very hard to peg back around here
