"Fair Passion has been thriving on the all-weather of late, winning a Southwell maiden and a handicap at Wolverhampton on her last two starts, both over five-furlongs. She should have more to offer, but the switch to turf is the big unknown."

With the sun breaking through and spring beckoning (finally), we take a trip to the seaside, where Yarmouth's card is highlighted by a competitive looking five-furlong handicap...

Monsieur Joe was progressive at 2 yrs over five-furlongs, winning a turf maiden and again on handicap bow. He ended the campaign on a high when finishing in mid-field in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot, but he looks high enough in the weights on his return.

Yurituni upped her game markedly last autumn, winning a brace of sprint nurseries at York and Bath. She's a genuine filly, but is up in the weights and a career best is needed to score on her reappearance.

The Strig has improved with each start, winning a five-furlong polytrack maiden when he was last seen in January. He hails from a shrewd stable so a market check is vital on his handicap bow, as he's capable of better still.

Pilgrim Dancer hails from a successful family and won a five-furlong maiden at Naas in April 2009. The remainder of that season was not so good, however, and the change of scenery, a long break, plus the gelding operation, needs to have perked him up.

Jack My Boy has been somewhat unreliable since gaining his third win over sprint distances at Pontefract in June 2009. There is plenty to take from his recent seven-furlong return and he's a contender if proving as effective back at five-furlongs. The yard is going well.

Leleyf won three times at this trip last year and produced a good effort on her recent return when second to Silver Linnet at Ffos Las. She powered home that day and is better off at weights, but more is needed to turn the tables.

Silver Linnet has got her act together of late over this trip, blitzing her rivals on the all-weather and defying a 12 lb higher mark to follow up on her more recent turf return at Ffos Las. A penalty shouldn't prevent another big run.

Fair Passion has been thriving on the all-weather of late, winning a Southwell maiden and a handicap at Wolverhampton on her last two starts, both over five-furlongs. She should have more to offer, but the switch to turf is the big unknown.

Maldon Prom got off the mark in a six-furlong all-weather nursery before Christmas and was not discredited when twice third since, latterly at this trip. However, he is vulnerable to improvers, and has still to prove he's as good on turf.

Verdict

Fair Passion has yet to encounter turf, but she looks ahead of the handicapper and the hat-trick beckons if maintaining her recent all-weather progress. Silver Linnet is also in excellent fettle and represents the most obvious threat with Jack My Boy rated third best.
