"Briery Fox is a useful handicap chaser who won similar event over C&D in March 2009 off 2 lb higher mark. Good fourth at Doncaster in February prior to poor effort last time. Should go close if back on song."
Today we focus on the veteran chase at Ascot, which features some old favourites.
Knowhere is a sketchy jumper, once again let down by jumping when falling at Cheltenham last time. Anything but reliable, though repeat of his Newbury (similar event) second in March would give him a big shout.
Magic Sky has been in fine heart this season, winning 2m chase at Chepstow and 2¾m handicap hurdle at Fontwell. Probably stays this far, though bit flat penultimate start and came to grief at Aintree last time.
Oscar Park is a smart hurdler at best who is potentially well treated over the larger obstacles. However, hasn't always convinced with his jumping, and it has let him down badly on both of his last 2 starts.
Briery Fox is a useful handicap chaser who won similar event over C&D in March 2009 off 2 lb higher mark. Good fourth at Doncaster in February prior to poor effort last time. Should go close if back on song.
Bowleaze is an inconsistent sort prone to errors, but does win fair share of races. Back below his last winning mark, though didn't impress with his attitude (threw away third) at Sandown last time.
Pretty Star enjoyed a revival in 2008/9, winning twice and runner-up in Kim Muir at Cheltenham. Recent efforts far from inspiring, though, and hard to have confidence in at present.
Cool Roxy is a standing dish at Fakenham, 11 of his 12 career wins achieved there. Oldest in the field, and below form of late.
VERDICT
Briery Fox didn't perform to expectations last time, but he won one of these veterans events over C&D in March 2009 and looks the safest option. Both Knowhere and Oscar Park have their problems in the jumping department, but could easily go close if putting in a clear round.
