The Greenham Stakes at Newbury features a mouth-watering rematch between two of the top juveniles from last season...

Arcano was unbeaten at 2 yrs, namely in a maiden here, a Group 2 at Newmarket and the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville. He broke the course record when beating Special Duty and Canford Cliffs on his final start and there must be more to come.

Bullwhip is a €340,000 half-brother to several winners in Germany, a couple who are smart. He bolted up in a sixteen-runner maiden at Doncaster (7f, soft) last month, but this represents a swift and sharp rise in class.

Canford Cliffs was a wide-margin winner of his first two starts, looking high class when beating Xtension with ease in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was unable to match that when third to Arcano in France and he has not been seen since.

Dick Turpin won his first four starts at 2 yrs, including the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood, before hitting the buffers in Group 1s at Longchamp and Newmarket in the autumn. He has work to do with the principals on form.

Rodrigo De Torres created a good impression when winning a maiden at York in July for Karl Burke. He failed to progress from that for different trainers and is surely in too deep here.

Verdict

Arcano got the better of Canford Cliffs when the pair were last seen at Deauville nearly eight months ago. Both remain exciting prospects but the latter is preferred this time with his stable having made the more sprightly start to the campaign.
