Born To Perform won two bumpers impressively in 2009. He didn't progress switched to the Flat later that year but ran better when stepped up to two miles on his recent Redcar return, and there is almost certainly more to come.
Pontefract stages the marathon handicap over one of the longest trips in Flat racing...
Dan Buoy has been twice a winner on the Flat and once over hurdles this year, including here last Tuesday when soon a long way clear. However, he often races moodily, and is not one to trust.
Pocket Too has a good overall strike rate, winning nine times in all, and stays this far. However, he has not been setting the world alight on the Flat this year, again failing to see his race out last time.
Born To Perform won two bumpers impressively in 2009. He didn't progress switched to the Flat later that year but ran better when stepped up to two miles on his recent Redcar return, and there is almost certainly more to come.
King In Waiting has been winless on the Flat since landing a maiden for John Oxx in 2006, but he proved he stays well when fifth at York on his final start last term. He comes here fit after two runner-up efforts over hurdles.
Amir Pasha is a maiden on the Flat but won twice over hurdles in the winter and finished third after not getting a clear run to Red Wine at Catterick on his recent return to the level. He is a contender but his stamina for this trip is not assured.
Calfraz is a maiden handicapper, who has not been seen on the Flat since his fourth here in October 2006. He has been no great shakes over hurdles either, looking laboured on his most recent run at Carlisle.
Fair Spin is a poor and ungenuine hurdler, and he is readily dismissed on his return to the level.
Alloro has little form on the Flat. He won a selling handicap hurdle when last seen but that was in February 2009, and the long absence is a big worry.
Verdict
Dual bumper winner Born To Perform looks ready to shed his maiden tag on the Flat, and is taken to see off Amir Pasha and recent course winner Dan Buoy.
