Timeform's free form site bring you their three SmartPlays for Tuesday afternoon...

The first of two SmartPlays at Southwell comes in the opening apprentice handicap over a mile (14:20), where Percythepinto looks the one to be on. The winner of a course-and-distance seller last year, Percythepinto is easily excused his only subsequent effort in 2011 having been turned out just a week later. He's potentially well handicapped judged on that form and his earlier effort at the track, when third in a nursery, and although Mark Johnston's market leader Always Eager has the advantage of race fitness, he's still a maiden and will be having his first run on fibresand whereas Percythepinto has already proven himself in both respects.

An hour later, in the six furlong handicap, we are faced with a similar scenario in terms of the make-up of the field and the market. Mark Johnston's handicap debutant Ghost Train heads the betting and has an obvious chance if he takes to the surface (didn't really achieve much when fifth in a course-and-distance maiden last year), having posted an improved second at Lingfield last time, but with the eight runners it might be worth an each-way play on Man of My Word. He didn't have much joy for David Nicholls, but soon got on the board returned to sprinting for Scott Dixon at Christmas time. It's easy to put a line through his run under a penalty at Wolverhampton last time (polytrack debut) and it will be a big surprise if this half-brother to fibresand specialist Even Stevens isn't in the three at the very least.

The final SmartPlay comes at Exeter, in the three mile handicap chase for novices' (16:00), which looks a pretty open race given that most arrive with something to prove. Thomas Wild is second in the market behind How's My Friend, but while the Hobbs-trained runner was fairly consistent over hurdles and in bumpers, in the frame more often than not, there's a chance he mightn't take to chasing, having failed to impress with his jumping at times and also looked a hard ride on occasion. If he takes to the job he will admittedly be thereabouts, but there are enough others in the field to get some mileage out of laying Thomas Wild for a place on his chasing debut.
