Leicester the scene of today's best bet.
"Now her best trip is established it seems fair to expect further improvement from Tempest River and she is taken to defy her penalty....."
With a selection from each meeting in Britain today, here are three more SmartPlays from the Timeform free form site....
It is to Leicester we head for our first SmartPlay of the day and the best betting opportunity from the midlands venue comes in the shape of Tempest River (14:40) in the Mares' "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle. Winner of the big mares' bumper at the Aintree festival last season, Tempest River was, on the face of it, a tad disappointing in her first two starts over hurdles despite making the frame on both occasions. However, both of those races worked out well and the way she travelled at trips of around two-and-a-half miles suggested that she would improve significantly dropped back in distance. Connections evidently agreed as the six-year-old reverted to two miles at Hereford just before Christmas where after leading on the run to the last she cruised clear to win by seven lengths. Now her best trip is established it seems fair to expect further improvement from Tempest River, and she is taken to defy her penalty and prove too good for main market rival Baby Shine.
A busy spell is in store for SmartPlays followers, as the second selection of the day comes just ten minutes later where Even Stevens (14.50) is fancied to add further lustre to his already impressive course record. Scott Dixon, Britain's youngest trainer, has made a fine start to his training career, closing his first month in the job with five winners on the board. One of the contributors to that tally was Even Stevens, who took his course record to six wins from seven starts when winning at this distance on New Year's Day, in the process maintaining his unbeaten record over Southwell's straight five furlongs. The handicapper has raised him five pounds as a result, but capable claimer Ryan Clark has been booked to help ease that burden and Even Stevens is likely to prove hard to beat.
We move south for our third and final SmartPlay of the day where it is worth backing Veroon (16.30) to at least place in the one mile handicap. A course and distance winner as recently as October, Veroon is now just one pound higher than for that latest success and served notice that he was ready to take advantage when a keeping-on fourth back over course and distance earlier this month. That effort was even more noteworthy as he was unsuited by being held up off a moderate pace and, with a couple of potential pace-setters in opposition, this afternoon's contest should be more to his liking. With trainer James Given enjoying a 23% strike rate with jockey Freddie Tylicki on the all-weather in the past five seasons, a little dabble in the win market at around [9.4] could also prove profitable.
