Can Chance du Roy win again?
"Chance du Roy, who goes for the in-form Philip Hobbs stable, has been very consistent over fences during the last couple of seasons, taking four handicaps at around today’s distance..."
The Timeform SmartPlays team bring you three more bets for Wednesday, with two back selections at Haydock Park and one at Kempton......
Today's meeting at Haydock is undoubtedly the card of the day and Chance du Roy looks the best bet on it in the handicap over two and a half miles due off at 16:25. Chance du Roy, who goes for the in-form Philip Hobbs stable, has been very consistent over fences during the last couple of seasons, taking four handicaps at around today's distance, and looks sure to give his running again now dropped back in trip having failed to stay three miles last time. The progressive Bold Sir Brian is likely to prove his biggest danger but that one is dipping his toe into handicap waters for the first time and must give weight to the selection.
Another outfit that can do little wrong at present is the Jackdaws Castle stable of Jonjo O'Neill, who look to have a good chance of another winner with the promising Holywell in the "Fixed Brush" novice hurdle 30 minutes later. Former Irish point scorer Holywell may have only paid back a smidgeon of his £70,000 price tag when winning a Chepstow maiden last month but he did so in impressive style, travelling comfortably and jumping slickly. A Timeform Horse In Focus, he looks sure to progress again and can put polished technique to good use and usurp chief market rival Amron Lad.
At odds against, Spartan Spirit (17:55) looks a very attractive back proposition in the mile-and-three-furlong handicap at Kempton this evening. In a field full of exposed performers, lightly-raced four-year-old Spartan Spirit stands out like a beacon, with his improved third at Warwick on his handicap debut when last seen in May suggesting that he was favourably treated. The form of the Hughie Morrison yard (three winners from last five runners), the fact that he's been gelded since his last run, and his plum draw in stall one are all positives and he's fully expected to defy a 2 lb rise in the weights on his return.
