Onto day two of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket and the Timeform Free Form Website fancies Elusive Pimpernel to boost his classic claims in the feature race.

Equiano (3.00) was a gallant second in the 2009 running of the Listed Abernant Stakes and can go one better on his reappearance. The 2008 King's Stand winner was beaten just half a length by Tax Free twelve months ago, the pair having dominated throughout. Kept to the very best company after that, Equiano always left the impression he'd get back to winning ways once his sights were lowered, and this looks an ideal opportunity with this year's renewal not looking particularly strong.

Elusive Pimpernel (3.35) was right up there among the best two-year-olds last season and can make a winning return in the Group 3 Craven Stakes. John Dunlop's charge won a red-hot maiden at the track on his debut and followed up in the Acomb Stakes at York. Only St Nicholas Abbey in the Racing Post Trophy prevented Elusive Pimpernel from ending the year unbeaten, and he should make an even better three-year-old.

The closing three-year-old handicap is usually a good race and this year's renewal should prove no exception. Most of the leading yards are represented, and siding with those with classic entries could prove the wisest strategy. Oaks-entered Diam Queen, the only filly in the line-up, is of obvious interest, but Tamaathul (5.20) could be the one, entered in all the big races following his authoritative success from a next-time-out winner in Quick Wit at Doncaster in the autumn. Bound to improve as his stamina is drawn out, Tamaathul could go right to the top.
