You could be forgiven for thinking we were back in the depths of winter on Thursday with three British jumps meetings and an all-weather card at Southwell, but there is some action on turf also at Beverley, and we've concentrated on the East Yorkshire track for our three selections.


Sworn Tigress (2.30) can return to winning ways in the handicap over a mile and a half. The five-year-old, owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, won her first three starts for George Baker upon arriving from Germany, including over today's trip, but caught a tartar in the improving Danderek at Wolverhampton last time. The form of that race has worked out well, with four winners coming out of it, and she has form on turf from her days in Germany.

The mile maiden looks a competitive heat with a number of interesting newcomers, but we think one of the more experienced runners Wulfrida (3.00) can get off the mark. She kept good company last term, finishing mid-field on her debut in a maiden won by Wigmore Hall who scored so impressively at Newmarket last week, and then fourth, beaten around a length, to classic-fancy Principal Role at Yarmouth a month later. Wulfrida seems sure to be winning races before long, and at a track where her trainer does well this could be the day.

Frankie Dettori goes to Beverley for one ride for Mark Johnston on Hacienda (4.05) and the impressive maiden winner can make it two from two. Hacienda proved a class apart on his debut at Wolverhampton in February, heavily eased to score by seven lengths, and the performance was all the more noteworthy in that unlike most of his winning stable mates on the all-weather at that time, he wasn't particularly well backed.
