Reprieved can score in the opener on the Southwell fibresand
"Reprieved is certainly handicapped to win, and is worth chancing with leading rivals Mackintosh and Megalo Maniac easy enough to oppose for various reasons.."
Bank Holiday Monday turned into Blank Holiday Monday for this column but we're confident of turning things back round on Tuesday with a selection from each of the three British meetings.
Starting off at Southwell, it may well pay to keep Reprieved (2.10) on side in the opening handicap. The five-year-old dropped significantly in the weights in his time with Julie Camacho, and shaped really well over an inadequate trip on his debut for John Quinn last month. The extra furlong here is a bare minimum, but Reprieved is certainly handicapped to win, and is worth chancing with leading rivals Mackintosh and Megalo Maniac easy enough to oppose for various reasons.
King Fontaine (2.45) has been revitalised for current connections, and should be up to taking advantage of the return to novice-company at Wetherby. The selection is very much a chaser on looks, and though yet to get off the mark in three attempts over the larger obstacles, he surely has races in him over fences. With his weak-finishing tendencies behind him, King Fontaine rates the most likely winner.
Hindu Kush (4.05) looks the best bet of the day at Ffos Las. Making his first start for Ian Williams, the five-year-old is potentially thrown in on the pick of his efforts for Aidan O'Brien, and more recently Dandy Nicholls, and looks to have been found a winning opportunity by connections on his return, with the unexposed Sheshali arguably his biggest danger but taking a big step up in class from the Wolverhampton handicap he won when last seen on the level in January. It's Hindu Kush's first start at an easy two miles and it should suit him.
