The impeccably-bred Gomrath created a really good impression when beating an improving rival over a mile-and-a-quarter at Lingfield last month, and seems almost certain to leave that behind in the Conditions stakes at Catterick (3.45). Gomrath deserves plenty of extra credit for his victory that day given the emphasis was on speed, which wouldn't have suited the three-year old. Stepped up two furlongs here, he rates a sure-fire improver, with the once-raced Lingfield winner Tajaarub hopefully ensuring Gomrath doesn't go off at unbackable odds.

With front runners in abundance in the five-furlong sprint at Epsom (2.20) it seems sensible to plump for a hold-up performer, and, at likely rewarding odds, Hoh Hoh Hoh makes plenty of appeal. The eight-year-old ran to a smart level on more than one occasion this time last year, and looks well treated courtesy of a handful of lesser efforts on the all-weather this winter. Hoh Hoh Hoh is easily forgiven his recent form figures, as that surface has never suited, and it would be no surprise if he bounced back to form back on turf. Indian Trail looks the principal threat given his run style over a course that suits, but Hoh Hoh Hoh will likely represent better value.

Alainmaar could hardly have done more in three runs last year, and this unexposed type rates a strong fancy in the 4.05 Epsom. Alainmaar didn't reach the racecourse until August, but he confirmed his debut promise in some style when a wide-margin winner at Pontefract upped to a mile-and-a-quarter the following month. He then beat two established handicappers in ready fashion, in the process confirming his worth as a potential pattern performer in the making. If that is the case, he should be up to the task of giving plenty of weight to most of these on return, and Alainmaar rates an exciting proposition this season.
